My pursuits to explore great live music and culture took me out to the province of greater Buenos Aires this weekend for a folklore adventure! I was on a mission to get to the FIFBA festival, otherwise known as the Buenos Aires International Folklore Festival. I had never been to La Plata before, and wouldn’t let the menacing warnings of the hassle to get there hold me back! Luckily my Guatemalan-Gringa partner in crime Mafi came along and after waiting in line for about a half hour to buy the ticket, then another half hour at least to get on the bus, we were on our way!

Cheers from the city of "Good Airs"!

I am here in Buenos Aires celebrating the centennial of International Women's Day. I have completed the first part of my travels all the way down from Cartagena, Colombia, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I will be residing for the next few months. Throughout my journey I have interviewed musicians, seen loads of live music, and learned so much about Latin American culture as well as my own. I've been on the road now for just over 3 months, and I'm not slowing down yet! I will be filling up this blog with my BA adventures and updating you all on my favorite musical finds from my South American travels. However, in order to properly celebrate International Women's Day, I wanted to post a throwback guest radio DJ set I did last year on International Women's Day with my friend Tony Sarabia on Chicago Public Radio's Radio M, featuring my favorite female artists, from the classics to up and coming favorites:  download the podcast for free here! For now enjoy some female powered sounds and make sure to check back soon for more Latin American updates!

After spending a month in my beloved NYC, I wanted to share some of my favorite hot spots for a great globally inspired fiesta. I don't know about you, but if you enjoy spending your Wednesday nights sweating it out to Brazilian forró music or shaking maracas to an electro cumbia beat like I do, there are a few mandatory spots to get to know in the big apple.
